Shopping areas and arcades are not just concentrated in the centre

Berlin has so many good shopping streets that it is impossible to list them all. And, if you are looking for the real shopping heart of the city, you won’t really be able to pin-point it. There is a simple reason for this: there are excellent shopping areas in almost every district.

In Mitte, this is Friedrichstrasse with its exclusive boutiques. The clientele in the Galeries Lafayette and Quartier 206 is just as international as the brand names. On the other hand, Germany’s largest Kaufhof department store and the Alexa shopping centre attract shoppers to Alexanderplatz. Kurfürstendamm, with its many designer boutiques, and Tauentzienstrasse with Peek & Cloppenburg, Wertheim and KaDeWe department stores are the pride and joy of Charlottenburg’s retail world.

In Zehlendorf and Steglitz people stroll along Schlossstrasse. And, then there are all the resourceful shop-owners in smaller streets such as Goltzstrasse in Schöneberg – well-known for its fashion boutiques. Reuterstrasse in Neukölln is an eldorado if you are looking for second-hand things. The area around the Hackesche Höfe is renowned for its fashion and design outlets.
