Nuns' retreat

The cemetery of Curral das Freiras provides not only an interesting insight into Madeiran burial traditions, but also a spectacular view of the mountains around the Valley of the Nuns. There is a wonderful view of the lower valley and also a beautiful view from the higher ground viewing point of Eira do Serrado.

Snorkelers' paradise

When the beach of Porto Santo is too crowded, snorkelers go down to the remote rocky bay of Zimbralinho to find beautiful turquoise water and peace. It is the perfect place to swim and sunbathe undisturbed, even in the peak season. The bay of Zimbralinho can only be reached by walking from the little pass near Morenos.

Enchanting garden

Monte Palace is a tropical garden and a place for art. In addition to a host of laurel trees, palms and ferns, the garden is filled with works of art, ponds with koi carp, Buddha statues and oriental gateways. And if that’s not enough, visitors can admire the largest vase ever to have been made on a potter’s wheel – it stands on the banks of the swan pond.
